This painting captures the last of the sun's rays illuminating the champions of peaks in Yosemite National Park, while the heavy fog lays upon the valley below like a night's blanket.
I have loved the photography of Ansel Adams, especially of Yosemite, since I was a college student; and was thrilled when a friend gave me permission to work from one of their vacation pictures as a reference.The birds were added for interest and balance. The glowing snow on the peak and the face of Half Dome, is a result of nearly thirty glaze layers to achieve the look I was after. I was able to capture the awe of the place.
